Wanted to Introduce Mike and Penny. This awesome couple will be embarking on some pretty sweet adventures, their most recent being a trip out to Colorado over Labor Day. They have already hiked the AT while raising money for scoliosis, taught environmental English class from the trail, and have one of the most warrior mini dachsunds around, guaranteed. They are planning some pretty big adventures in the not so distance future armed with a two great attitudes and a desire to see all things great. Don't take it from me though...check out what they are all about below in their own words. Please also head over to their websites/journals and subscribe to their social media to follow all of their adventures. Adventures they will be taking while keeping warm is some stellar MAMW quilts! :-)
We have a simple story with an adamant message: "Rec Responsibly!" We are curious, adventure seekers who share a common love for the environment, nature and recreation. We are experienced backpackers and overlanders, novice kayakers and trail runners and beginner climbers and cross country skiers.
We travel with our equally adventurous 10lb mini dachshund (#landshark) who might just be the littlest long distance traveler on 4 feet!
We've thru hiked the Appalachian Trail, section hiked the Ozark Trail, traversed from rim to river in the Grand Canyon, paddled the Mangroves of the Everglades, navigated the slot canyons of Utah, bagged 14'ers in Colorado, walked among giants in Sequoia and Redwoods, swam in glacial fed lakes under the watching eye of Mount St Helens, hiked across permanent snow fields in Glacier and so, so much more!
Our future plans are far from etched in stone; however a few of the things we're looking forward to in the coming few years is thru hiking the Long Trail, the Colorado Trail and, in Spring 2018, the Pacific Crest Trail. We anticipate some overland travel that will take us to places far and inbetween, our main goal remaining to stay curious and own our adventure!
A driving force behind our meanderings, aside from the passion ignited within us, is the desire to share our experiences and educate generations about the abundance of recreational opportunities out there and the responsibility and stewardship necessary to preserve them. We both, in various capacities, have contributed countless hours towards this mission and plan to take this message with us where ever we go and share it with whoever will listen. We can not stay quiet when some of our most precious natural wonders could be in jeopardy. We must stand for that without legs and speak for that with no mouth. We must protect that which will ultimately save us!
Check out some of our links below. We are presently re-building our blog (bootsandbackpacks.wordpress) and are purchasing a domain for our TREE program (domain will be recresponsibly.org); we are also anticipating uploading and organizing our trip pics on Photo Bucket and linking them to our blog in addition to the pics and posts we put on Facebook and Instagram.
